Tektraco's perseverance pays off! The smallest solution on the market for drop fibre repairs

We are always looking for new solutions to our customers problems. One common issue with any cable, are the accidental cuts. When it comes to regular fibre cable, we use enclosures and means to manage the fibre, yet how do we address such concerns with our drop 2x3 cable which contains a single fibre?

We asked our friends at Sopto as well as our clients GO what they use. The common fix is a 'patch protection box' which makes use of an adapter and 2 connectors mechanical.

While the above solution works, it has drawbacks: from the large size, to the high loss introduced by the many components.

When our partner sent us the datasheet for the 'patch protection box', aka SPPB-B, they had a second type of enclosure, SPPB-A available. When asked about it, they informed us that it is no good. We decided to get a couple anyway, we then realized that it may be useless, as with regular splice heat shrinks, there is not enough space for the cable to be kept securely.

We then recalled our experiments with SOC devices and they were typically supplied with 'extra wide' shrink sleeves, but these were too short to work with. Following this, we ordered custom made shrink sleeves from Sopto, 60mm long but 'extra wide'.

Viola! Not only did we learn how to use our partners products better but we now have the smallest solution on the market for drop fibre repairs using splicing technology. No more uncertainty, just perfection in repairs!
